Ghada Amer

Ghada Amer is an Egyptian artist who believes "that all women should like their bodies and use them as tools of seduction." Her art of erotic embroidery emphasizes the balance between delicate needle work and harsh pornographic images. The women within her art are despised by feminists yet adored by Amer for their portrayal of the taboo art of seduction. Although she also creates paintings, sculptures, and outdoor exhibits, Amer's embroidery strikes me as particularly meaningful as it uses the needlepoint work of a traditional woman to portray extremely non-traditional female identities.
